The DiaStar collection introduced in 1962 was launched as the world’s first scratch-resistant watch. The debut of this collection marked the brand’s devotion to innovation, positioning them as the “Master of Materials” long before the widespread adoption of sapphire crystals in watchmaking. Crafted from ultra-resistant hard metal, the original DiaStar employed an alloy of carbide tungsten powder formed through a meticulous sintering process. This bold use of technology and design encapsulated the forward-thinking ethos that continues to define Rado watches today.

Rado DiaStar Original watches are powered by the calibre R764. It is a modified automatic movement based on the popular ETA 2824, featuring the signature antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring along with gold-plated plates and bridges. It provides exceptional precision in measuring hours, minutes, seconds, and date and shows the day complication as well in some timepieces. With a frequency of 28,800bph, R764 provides a whopping 80 hours of power reserve.
