OCEAN STAR DECOMPRESSION TIMER 1961

LIMITED EDITION

After four successful versions, the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 from MIDO is back, paying homage once again to its original 1961 model, the Ocean Star Skin Diver Watch. In a glossy black case contrasting with the bright hues of its legendary multicoloured decompression scale, this limited edition of 1961 pieces perfectly combines intensity and irresistible vintage allure.

In 2020, MIDO made history. The brand, a pioneer in water resistance since the 1930s, reissued the famous Ocean Star Skin Diver Watch from 1961. This watch, extremely popular with divers at the time, made it easy to read decompression stops, thanks to a multicoloured table that quickly became legendary. The 1961 Ocean Star Decompression Timer has been reinterpreted using top-quality materials and cutting-edge technologies, and has remained faithful to its unique original aesthetic, being successfully renewed over several editions in 2020, 2021 and 2023.

Dive Into The Legend

This year, MIDO is unveiling a new, highly exclusive limited series of the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 with an intense black PVD-treated polished steel case. This sporty model continues to assert its strong historical codes linked to the underwater world: multicoloured table, unidirectional rotating bezel, “glassbox” style sapphire crystal reminiscent of the old Plexiglas, and a size of 40.5 mm – a modest diameter, just like in the old days. The Caliber 80, an exceptionally reliable mechanism, can count on an enviable power reserve of up to 80 hours and a high-tech Nivachron™ balance spring. The back is engraved with the symbol of the Ocean Star collection, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary: the starfish, a reminder of MIDO’s expertise in water resistance.

Three Interchangeable Bracelets

Three interchangeable bracelets – shiny black Milanese mesh steel, leather, and rubber – each add a different touch to the model. The cutting-edge performance and vintage appeal echo the spirit of the exhilarating dives of the sixties.

Black And Colour

Inspirational and multicoloured, the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 will brighten up any wrist with its seductive allure. On the black background of the dial, MIDO deploys the vivid shades of the decompression scale on the original model – a nod intended not to replace modern diving instruments, but to perpetuate the captivating aesthetics of yesteryear. Yellow, green, pink and blue, a table with coloured circles indicates the recommended stops. The characteristic unidirectional rotating bezel with aluminium ring counts down the elapsed time, thanks to a generous luminescent dot that serves as a marker.

Retro Modern

On a watch like this, legibility is crucial, whether in the sunshine or in the depths. Super-LumiNova® is used for the diamond-cut and faceted hour and minute hands and the polished indexes. A detail exuding powerful historical charm, the vintage MIDO logo is a polished applique on the black dial, and engraved on the back, crown and bracelet clasps.

A “glassbox” style crystal offers effective protection for the dial and reinforces the vintage look of the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961.

Intense Black

For added sparkle and character, MIDO has completely polished the case of the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961, which is crafted from solid stainless steel. A black PVD treatment gives it an intense shine. The screw-down crown and screw-on case back – a signature of the Ocean Star collection – further enhance the watch’s resilience, ensuring remarkable water resistance of up to 200 metres. At the heart of the case, the formidable Caliber 80 offers excellent reliability, thanks to its power reserve of up to 80 hours. Its highly robust Nivachron™ balance spring is exceptionally resistant to magnetism and shocks.

Special Box

Each of the 1961 pieces comes in a special box.

This box contains a limited edition certificate and a set of three bracelets: black PVD-treated polished stainless steel Milanese mesh, semi-gloss blue textured rubber, and black genuine calfskin leather, with stitching in the colours of the dial table.

A tool-free easy-change system means you can vary your look to suit the occasion.
