Hands-On The Seiko Prospex ‘Captain Willard’ Reissue
A reincarnation of the Seiko 6105, colloquially known as the “Captain Willard” for its role in the movie Apocalypse Now, has returned for the second time (the first time was in the form of the SLA033). A hardwearing, easy-to-read timepiece that looks very different from other dive watches.
Modernized from the original version with high visibility dial layouts, increased power reserve to 70 hours and smaller case size for even more comfort.
We’ve got our hands on the “Captain Willard” and here are our thoughts.
The new Seiko SPB151 is a modern reissue of the famous Seiko “Captain Willard” ref. 6105, followed by the limited edition SLA033 that was launched back in 2019.
This time round it’s not a limited edition and the price is similar to the rest of the Prospex series.
The watch is cased 42.7mm steel case with a 200 metres of water resistance, screw downed crown, AR coated slight domed sapphire glass and a metal bracelet with a new and improved clasp.
The watch is powered by Seiko’s 6R35 calibre. Running at 21,600 bph and sporting a 70 hours power reserve, this movement is currently the most bang for the buck movement in the Seiko line up.
Watch wears really comfortable even on smaller wrist and the weight is balanced throughout. For strap lovers, you will be delighted because this watch can go with any straps you want and still hold its unique look.
Overall, this watch is a must have for Seiko enthusiasts and also for those that wants a watch with a unique design, a rich heritage and a respected icon from one of the most important brand in the world.
